Voluntary Forfeits

A “voluntary forfeit” occurs when a team decides during or before the round not to debate, often because it feels unprepared. The CDL does not allow voluntary forfeits. Registered teams must debate each round or withdraw from the tournament. Judges should not accept a voluntary forfeit, but should rather give each team the option of continuing the round or withdrawing from the tournament. A team that withdraws from the tournament will need to wait in a supervised place to be picked up and taken home by a parent or guardian.
