The 2011 Allstate Elimination Round Awards
The Chicago Debate League will feature again this season the Allstate Elimination Round Awards at the 2011 Allstate CPS Chicago Debate Championship. These awards complement the Allstate Coaching Incentives: those incentives reward coaching performance in engaging and involving students, and these awards reward coaching performance in developing competitive, advanced debating.
These Allstate-funded per team awards are as follows:
Junior Varsity
$100 — Octos
$200 — Quarters
$300 — Semi’s
$400 — Final Round
$500 — Champion
Varsity
$150 — Octos
$300 — Quarters
$450 — Semi’s
$600 — Final Round
$750 — Champion
Two specific points about the disbursement of the 2011 Allstate Elimination Round Awards.
(i)
The 2011 Allstate Elimination Round Awards require a letter or email from your principal for disbursement (so they won’t be disbursed on site at the Chicago Debate Championship). The letter or email should be sent to Les and should specify to whom the check be made out and sent.
(ii)
Funds can be spent on anything debate-related, including coach stipends, though we recommend that schools consider using these funds to help non-seniors attend a university summer debate institute or to help seniors pay for their freshman year in college (likely not a whole lot more than their books, but for our students trying to face the financial challenge of college, every little bit helps). Particularly for coaches that have won or will be winning other incentives, it would make sense for the Allstate Elimination Round Awards to directly benefit the students — you as coaches are in the best position to know particularly how.
