Announcing the 2011 Allstate "Expanding Opportunities" Invitational

We are pleased to announce the final academic debate competition of the 2010/11 school year: the first-ever Allstate “Expanding Opportunities” Invitational.

The event will take place on May 21st at Marine Math and Science Academy, 145 S. Campbell, and will feature a four-round schedule.

This Invitational is for JV debaters — and even especially brand new JV debaters (i.e., new recruits who have never debated before). It is also open to Allstate “Expanding Opportunities” schools only. Here is the list of these schools:

Amundsen
Austin Polytech
Bowen
Brooks
Collins
Ellison
Farragut
Harlan
Hope
Hubbard
Hyde Park
Juarez
Thomas Kelly
Kelvyn Park
Little Village

Power House

Rowe-Clark
School of the Arts

Urban Prep — East Garfield Park
Urban Prep — Englewood
VOISE

At this event only — because of its orientation toward new and less-experienced debaters — Varsity debaters will be allowed judge these debates.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all participants, and a $350 incentive per school. Participating schools have to provide their own transportation and judging.

To register, you must bring at least two teams (four debaters) — you can certainly register more than two teams. Registration is due Friday, May 6th, and should be sent to Forrest — forrestsumlar@resources.chicagodebates.org — names of teams and judges.

Just a note, we already have registration (for the Charter School Invitational, which we have converted now into this event, the Allstate “Expanding Opportunities” Invitational) from:

Bowen
Ellison
Rowe-Clark
Urban Prep — East Garfield Park
Urban Prep — Englewood
Woodlawn
