Update on the 2011 Coach Training Courses

We have the daily schedules posted for the Introduction to Debate Coaching (July 25 – 27, 9am – 3pm) and the Varsity Debate Coaching (August 1 – 3, 9am – 3pm) courses.

The Varsity Debate Coaching course in particular is taking very full advantage of the outstanding “debate professionals” staff that has been assembled for the 2011 Chicago Debate Summer Institute: there will be a series of highly experienced leaders covering a solid set of Varsity-level debating and coaching issues. The Introduction to Debate Coaching is an essential introduction to competitive academic debate, debate instruction, and the CDL, one that will be concentrated and highly productive. Both courses will provide a grounding in the new CDL Debater Development Benchmarks, which will form the basis of qualitative metrics for CDL debaters and will serve as the organizing principles for coach and student training curriculum throughout the season.

Both courses are being held at the CDSI location, Westinghouse College Prep, 3223 W. Franklin Blvd. Both courses offer participants CPDUs and 5 hours of professional development credit with the CDL for SY2012. Both courses offer lunch and parking free. Both courses will be worthy of the standard the CDL sets for coach training and professional development.

And it is not too late to get your name on the registration list for either or both course. Simply send Les an email — leslynn@chicacgodebateleague.org — declaring your intention to attend. We currently have 30+ coaches registered for the Intro course and 20+ registered for the Varsity course. We can go up to about 35 maybe as high as 40 in each course.
