Catalyst Publishes Article on the CDL, Curricular Debate, and the Common Core
Les Lynn and Edie Canter co-write an article published by Catalyst Chicago, a well-respected publication on Chicago school reform.
The article makes the case for leveraging the success of the Chicago Debate League by expanding the curricular applications of debate and argumentation from evidence, something that the CDC has been working on with individual schools and teachers for about five years, but whose time has come to consider more systemically, given the emphasis that the Common Core State Standards place on argument, refutation, and the use of textual evidence in the effort to focus K-12 education on college preparation and career readiness.
