Final Coach Training Seminar of 2012/13 on Saturday, June 9th, 9am – 11am

We are holding a final Coach Training Seminar of the year next Saturday, June 9th, 9am – 11am, at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, 25 E. Pearson St.

CPDUs are provided along with CDL professional development credit for the 2012/13 school year.

This seminar should be of interest to coaches at all experience levels. The agenda is two-fold:

I.  CDL Program Management: Orientation and Insights

The SY2012 CDL Coach Survey identified several key areas of program management for coaches for which there is some level of uncertainty or confusion. Coaches deserve clear, concise explanations of how the CDC and CPS administer the league, so that they can effectively manage — and feel fully in control over — their own debate programs. Issues that we’ll cover include:

  • Incentive System
  • Coach Stipend System
  • Cityspan
  • Invitational and Sponsored Events (including invitation criteria)
  • Qualitative Assessment Project Implementation
  • Programming Site Usage
  • Reporting Notebooks

We’ll have an inter-active segment, and may include a report from a representative of the CDL Coaches’ Council on related issues.

II.  Early Preview of the 2012/13 Debate Topic: Transportation Infrastructure

We will review cases and arguments to be included in the SY2013 Core Files, and share with attendees where the research currently stands in preparation of those arguments. We’ll also discuss resources to seek out to get an introduction to this public policy area over the summer. We are hoping to have a representative or two from the Core Files research team involved in the presentation.

Registration is required: register by sending an email to cdc@resources.chicagodebates.org, by Thursday, 6/7.
