Monday Memo — vol. I, no. 12 — October 8, 2012

1. Tournament One Fast Approaching

The first tournament in the 2012/13 Chicago Debate League season is very nearly here. The RCC debates this weekend (October 12 – 13) at Lane Tech College Prep. The following weekend, the Local Circuit Conference debates a two-day tournament (October 19 – 20) at Hyde Park Academy H.S., while the “A” and “AA” Conferences debate on Saturday only (October 20), “A” at Chicago Ag H.S. and “AA” at Bogan Tech H.S.

The CDL website programming site has a Calendar that is always current on dates and confirmed locations of all CDL events.

2. T1 Registration for the LCC, “A,” and “AA” Due by the End of the Day Monday, 10/15

The Tournament Documents page of the CDL site has the T1 Registration Form. It should be downloaded (like all documents that you click on from the CDL site — and by clicking on the downward-arrow in the lower-right corner of the page), completed, then emailed to David by 5pm on Monday.

Tournament Documents also contains the tournament schedules and the “A” and “AA” Conference Runnable Case Lists.

3. 2012/13 Professional Development Reporting Notebook Update

This has been posted on the Professional Development Reporting Notebook page of the CDL site.

Check it to see how close you are to attaining the 10 hour PD standard for the semester. Coaches have received about 175 teacher-hours of competitive academic debate PD so far this season.

4. Former WY Debate Coach Wins National Education Innovation Prize

Whitney Young Debate Coach (2009 – 2012) Jeff Scheur started an on-line education services company called No Red Ink. Jeff left WY this summer to move to Silicon Valley and devote himself full-time to his start-up. Just two weeks ago, No Red Ink won the NBC News Education Innovation Fund national contest, with a $75,000 prize and some other great benefits. Congratulations Coach Scheur!
