Invitation to Attend the 2012 Performance Trust Public Debates on the U.S. Economy

This is an open invitation to all who are part of the Chicago Debate League to come to the 2012 Performance Trust Public Debates this weekend, December 7th and 8th, at the offices of Performance Trust Capital Partners, 500 W. Madison St., Suite 450.

Registration is required, and must be sent to Megan Clark — mclark@performancetrust.com — by 5:00pm on Thursday, 12/6.

The Performance Trust Public Debates will be on key economic issues facing the country — e.g., the relative priority policy-makers should give to accumulating federal debt vs. continuing high unemployment, and financial regulation, in particular the desirability of Dodd-Frank. These public debates are in a specially-designed format that emphasizes oratorical communication with the general public, while retaining the key components that make academic debate rigorous: critical thinking through refutation and argumentation from textual evidence.

Performance Trust is generously offering scholarships to the top speakers at the event, and on Saturday morning a VIP panel will determine the top teams. Chicago media has already shown signs of interest. Consider coming out to see some of our top debaters demonstrate how effectively they will blend developed speaking with advanced argumentation skills learned and honed in the Chicago Debate League.
