Two Announcements re the 2013 Allstate CPS Chicago Debate Championship

At its second quarter (Q2) meeting, the CDL Coaches’ Council guided two final decisions regarding the 2013 Allstate CPS Chicago Debate Championship (T6).

(i)

The dates will be April 6th – 8th, Saturday through Monday. The Council determined that the weekend of March 23rd – 25th would not be feasible because it’s the first weekend of CPS spring break. The last weekend in March isn’t possible, as it’s spring break and Easter weekend.

The tentative event schedule provides start and end times each day. We don’t yet know the site. If Northwestern University can host us on that weekend we will return to this prestigious campus on Saturday and Sunday, and we will be at Loyola University or another downtown college site on Monday evening for the final rounds. If Northwestern cannot host, we will likely be at a very large high school on Saturday and Sunday. We will keep everyone posted on the site as we obtain definite information from our prospective hosts.

(ii)

Debaters this year will debate in all six prelim rounds, if we have sufficient room space to forgo byes. We will conduct coach and student surveying electronically and in advance of the Chicago Debate Championship. Other administrative requirements will be fulfilled outside the T6 schedule, as far as possible.

This is an early note that all 45 high schools should plan to compete at the 2013 Chicago Debate Championship. Each school will have at least one at-large bid to this tournament, in addition to their student entries from the Eligibility Roster. The Chicago Debate Championship is Tournament Six, one of the required tournaments for all CDL schools.
