CDL Coach Training Seminar I — Saturday, August 24th, 9:00am – 12:00pm

The Chicago Debate League has its first coach training seminar of seven now scheduled for the 2013/14 season — Coach Training Seminar I — next Saturday, 8/24, 9:00am – 12:00pm, at the Loyola Law School, 25 E. Pearson St.

This seminar will conduct an in-depth, argument by argument explication and strategic analysis of the 2013/14 CDL Core Files. We hope to have enough of a registration to run two seminars at the same time, one for more experienced and one for less experienced coaches. Attendees are asked to bring a copy of the Core Files to the seminar, though it’s not a requirement.

Parking at lots near the Loyola Law School is $10, with validation from the lobby of the law school building (the Philip H. Corboy Center, 25 E. Pearson St.). The Loyola Law School is also right off of the Chicago stop on the CTA red line.

Registration is required. Register by Thursday, 8/22, at 3:00pm, by sending an email to register@resources.chicagodebates.org.

Attendees will earn three hours of professional development credit within the CDL system, and three hours of CPDUs.

We’ll be covering in depth the following CDL Debater Development Benchmarks:

Introduction to the Topic
(19) Broad knowledge of the public policy context from which the topic comes
(20) Understanding the Core Files

Advanced Use of Evidence
(37) Choosing the best and most useful Core Files evidence (or arguments from other prepared files), supplementing with additional research and updates, and deleting or not using weaker evidence
(38) Highlighting or underlining all key arguments from the Core Files (or other prepared files) for efficiency and strategic value

We hope to see a bunch of coaches on August 24th!
