The 2014 Allstate Varsity Invitational

Allstate is for the fifth consecutive year hosting and sponsoring one of the premier additional events in the CDL calendar. On October 18th, 2014, 16 of the top Varsity debate teams from all four Conferences of the CDL will converge on the national headquarters of one of the nation’s largest insurance corporations, Allstate Insurance, in Northbrook, for a full-day of academic debate competition.

The event will include an informal mentoring program, led by Allstate executives and professionals over lunch, part of a broader talent-cultivation program that Allstate is considering initiating, one that would involve the top-performing Allstate Invitational debaters from this year and the past Invitationals. The awards ceremony at the end of the 2014 Allstate Varsity Invitational will feature the announcement of college scholarships totaling $4,500 which will be given to the top three teams overall, and the top speaker in each conference.

Coach compensation of $500 will be provided to each school with a team selected, $1000 if a school has two teams at the event. No more than two teams will be invited from any one school. The top three Varsity teams at T1 in each Conference will be invited; additionally, the CDL will invite up to four additional teams at-large.

Participating schools are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event, and for providing one judge.

Each team will be able to preview one affirmative case, generating a 2014 Allstate Varsity Invitational Runnable Case List. Only cases on the Runnable Case List will be runnable at the tournament. Violations will result in forfeit.

Further details on the 2013 Allstate Varsity Invitational are available in this overview of the event.
