Illinois Middle School State Championship and Urban Debate Middle School Nationals (Optional, unofficial tournaments in April)
Our friends at the Illinois Middle School Debate League (made up of suburban and parochial schools) are hosting a first-ever Illinois Middle School Debate Championship at Bessie Rhodes School of Global Studies in Skokie on Saturday, 4/6.
Note that this is totally optional and NOT an official CMSDL tournament, is not run by our staff, and requires schools to provide their own judges and funds. The CMSDL may have some limited scholarship money available to assist schools that wish to attend directly – contact David for more information.
Qualification for the tournament depends upon where schools finish among the top teams at our Chicago Middle School Debate Championship on Saturday, March 9th at CVCA.
The CMSDL’s liaison and the tournament co-director is Jared Lee from Skinner West. Fees are TBD, but will likely range over $50 per two-person team competing, plus the cost of meals. Contact Jared directly with questions and for more information as it becomes available.
Another optional, unofficial tournament opportunity for teams that are willing to raise funds for flights, hotel, and a considerably more expensive entry fee ($150 per two-student team) is a first-ever Urban Debate Middle School National Championship in Washington, DC. Contact the tournament directors (from Boston and Washington DC) directly with questions:
