The 2012 Allstate CPS Chicago Debate Championship is the culminating event of the season for Chicago high school students participating in the Chicago Debate League, a program operated as a partnership between Chicago Public Schools and the nonprofit Chicago Debate Commission. Held over three days in late March, the tournament gives about 350 of the city’s best debaters the opportunity to prove themselves as champions.
The three-day tournament will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 23–25.
Please review the T6 schedule.
The Chicago Debate Championship will hold its preliminary rounds Friday March 23rd and Saturday March 24th at Northwestern University in Evanston.
Awards will be presented at a ceremony on Saturday, March 24, at 3pm, at Northwestern University, followed by a special supporters reception at 4pm.
Semifinals and Final Round debates will take place Sunday at the DePaul Loop Campus in Chicago.
The Chicago Debate Championship is a full two-day tournament for all schools and coaches. As with Tournament Three at DePaul for Conference “A” and “AA,” schools agree, as a condition of participating in the Chicago Debate League, to provide sub coverage for their teachers to attend the full day on Friday with their students. Schools should arrange for these plans now and let us know if you have any questions or need assistance in communicating this requirement.
Parking on Campus: Friday, parking near campus should be available since the school is on spring break. Remember to carefully check all posted signs on the block you park on since many residential areas near campus have 2 hour parking limits or require a permit. For South campus you can find parking along Sheridan, Clark , Hinman and Judson. For North campus try side streets between Sheridan and Orrington (Library, Garrett, Haven, Noyes, Dartmouth and Colfax). On Saturday, you can park in any legal space in and on campus lot. Consult this campus map for the lot closest to the North (Tech Institute) and South Campus (The Rock, Fisk Hall). Please head all posted signage regarding parking restrictions.
